Discovered a $12 tool that stopped my basement flooding issue
After 3 years of water seeping in after every heavy rain, I tried one of those cheap water alarm sensors from Home Depot. It sits on the floor and screams when it detects moisture - gave me enough time to move stuff before it got ruined. Has anyone else had luck with these things or am I just lucky so far?

Have you tried putting one of those alarms right where the water first shows up, like near a crack in the foundation or a window well? I did the same thing after my sump pump failed on me twice, and it honestly saved me a lot of headaches. Pro tip though, test the alarm every few months because the batteries can die without warning.

Laugh all you want, but a screaming $12 gadget beats a soggy basement any day. I put one by my sump pump after it crapped out during a storm and I came home to a small swimming pool. Battery dying is a real issue though, mine beeped at 3 AM once and I almost threw it across the room. Still better than the alternative of mopping up a mess at midnight.
