Hit 50,000 miles on my car last Tuesday and it got me thinking: when does a milestone actually mean something?
So I rolled over 50k on my 2019 Civic and honestly it just felt like a number. But my buddy just hit 100k on his truck and he was all proud about it. I don't get it - like is hitting a round number just a random thing or does it actually prove something about how you take care of stuff? My car runs fine, his truck has needed a transmission since 80k lol. So which side are you on - do milestones like this matter or are they just for showing off? What's a number that actually surprised you and why?

I hit 200,000 miles on my 2003 Corolla a few years back and honestly it felt more like a threat than a celebration. My dashboard lights looked like a Christmas tree by then. Milestones are just numbers unless the car actually proves it can still get you where you're going without coughing up a code. Your buddy bragging about 100k with a blown transmission is like bragging about finishing a marathon with a broken leg. It's just showing off, not proof of anything.

Well @the_hannah made a good point about the Corolla. So when exactly does a high mileage car stop being a badge of honor and start being a financial mistake you're too stubborn to dump?
