Thought I was a decent parallel parker until my neighbor in Rochester filmed me
My neighbor Deb filmed me parking my truck on our narrow street in Rochester and showed me the video over the fence. I had been swinging way too wide and steering at the wrong moment for years, which is why I always needed two or three tries. She walked me through it once, turn the wheel all the way when my back bumper hits her driveway line, then straighten as I come in. Now I get it in one shot almost every time and it feels silly how long I fought it. Did anyone else learn a basic skill this late from someone just watching them?
Why do neighbors always see the stuff we can't see ourselves? Mine caught me backing into the mailbox for the third time last summer and just shook her head, lol. Having someone stand outside the truck and watch the angle is way different than guessing from the driver seat. My wife still gives me grief about how long I rode the clutch wrong in my old stick shift before my brother pointed it out. Sometimes you just need that one person to call it out.
