Used to think I had to answer every question right away in my ask anything threads
Started waiting 24 hours before responding after a moderator told me it doubled my reply quality and cut down on stupid arguments, has anyone else noticed silence makes people actually read your answers?

Three years back I tried the same thing on my music forum and it backfired hard. People just forgot about the thread by the time I got back to them, or they'd already gotten their answer somewhere else.

Three days ago my friend group chat got into a dumb argument about movie spoilers because someone replied too fast. I see the same pattern @patkelly mentioned on music forums. In real life, if you blurt out an answer right away people either argue with you or completely ignore what you said. Waiting a day forces them to actually process your words instead of treating it like a race to be first. It works best when the topic matters enough that people will wait for a good answer instead of just wanting instant gratification.
