Why does nobody talk about the weird silence at the Bonneville Salt Flats?

I drove out to the Bonneville Salt Flats last weekend for the first time, and the thing that hit me wasn't the white horizon-it was the dead quiet. No birds, no wind rustling, just this eerie stillness that made me feel like I was on another planet. Has anyone else noticed that kind of silence at unique natural spots?

My buddy Mark went out there last year to try and break his land speed record on a motorcycle. He told me when he shut off the engine in the middle of the flats, the silence was so loud it kinda freaked him out. Said he could hear his own heartbeat and his ears were ringing from the pressure change. He was out there for like 20 minutes just standing still until a gust of wind finally kicked up and snapped him out of it. Weird place, for real.

@kai602 that silence thing is no joke man. i've been out to the Bonneville Salt Flats a couple times for work stuff and it hits different when everything goes still. like your brain literally doesn't know what to do with zero noise. its not peaceful its unsettling. the ringing in your ears thing is real too because your nervous system is constantly scanning for threats and when theres no sound at all it just starts manufacturing noise. your buddy probably had that primitive fight or flight switch flipping hardcore. weird place for sure but i kinda get why people chase records out there.
