Finally got my polar alignment right after two whole nights

I was trying to get a good shot of the Andromeda galaxy from my backyard, but every long exposure had star trails. The problem was my tripod wasn't perfectly level on the uneven ground. I spent about six hours over two nights just fiddling with the leveling base and the polar scope on my Sky-Watcher mount. It finally clicked when I realized I had to adjust the azimuth bolts much more than I thought. Has anyone else had this much trouble getting started with a new mount?

Tell calebb57 the real rite of passage is when you finally give up and go to bed.
