Heads up if you visit Mauna Kea at night

I was up at the visitor center last week and noticed three cars had their dome lights on for 20 minutes straight, totally ruining everyone's night vision for miles.

And the thing is, if you're gonna be that oblivious, you probably also don't realize that leaving your dome light on for 20 minutes is gonna kill your battery. I saw someone do that at a trailhead once, came back to a dead car at midnight. Had to wait three hours for a jump.

Yo hold on, I gotta ask - were these people just totally clueless or did they not care at all? Like who rolls up to an observatory and thinks "yeah let me just blast my interior lights for 20 minutes straight"? I've been up there a few times and the rangers always make a big deal about turning off all lights, even phone screens. Did anybody say something to them or were people just letting it slide? That kind of thing really messes with the whole experience for everyone else trying to see the stars.
