I compared my old photo of the Orion Nebula to one I took last night

I dug up a picture I took of M42 back in 2021 with my old DSLR and a basic lens. The new one from last night, using the same camera but with a borrowed 200mm telescope from a friend in Tucson, is just crazy different. You can actually see the cloud shapes and some color now, not just a fuzzy gray blob. Has anyone else been shocked by how much a single piece of gear can change your results?

Oh man, the "aperture size" question from @gonzalez.rowan really takes me back. For what it is worth, my friend didn't actually mention the model number at first, he just handed me this beat up old Celestron and said "good luck." I spent the whole first night trying to figure out if it was a 90mm or a 114mm by comparing it to pictures online, which was a mess. Eventually @shane_williams, I ended up using a measuring tape to check the tube diameter, because I was too embarrassed to ask him again. It turned out to be a 130mm, which I guess is decent for a beginner scope, but your mileage may vary on whether that's worth the hassle.
