I finally get why people go nuts over the Orion Nebula photos

I always thought those deep space nebula shots were just colorized noise until I pointed my own scope at it last month and saw that faint pink glow with my own eyes through a $200 eyepiece from a buddy in Tucson.

My buddy in Tucson said seeing that faint pink glow made him cry, and I didn't believe him until I saw it myself.

Huh, I mean no disrespect to your buddy or you, but I kind of wonder if people get a little too worked up over that pink glow. It's a nice light show for sure, but I've seen it a few times now and it's just a bit of color in the sky at the end of the day. Maybe it's because I live in the suburbs where we still have some streetlights, but it's not exactly life-changing. I remember people posting about the aurora last year too, and half the photos were just a faint wash of pink that you'd miss if you blinked. I'm not saying you're wrong to feel something, just that I don't get the crying over a bit of atmospheric chemistry.
