I was a snob about phone astrophotography until last night

Honestly, I spent $300 on a used tracking mount and always laughed at phone pics. Then my DSLR battery died at a dark site near Flagstaff, so I propped my iPhone on a fence and used a 10 second exposure. The Andromeda shot was grainy but way better than I expected, has anyone else ditched a big setup for a phone in a pinch?

Watched a guy do the same thing at a star party in Utah last summer, except his phone was held up with a rock and a water bottle. His Milky Way shot looked better than mine and I had a full rig set up on a tripod. I felt like a total fool standing there with all my gear while he just sat on the tailgate drinking a beer. Phone cameras have gotten scary good in the last few years. Makes you wonder why we drag all this heavy stuff out there sometimes.
