Just realized my telescope stacking software was ruining nebula shots for 6 months
I kept getting these washed out Orion Nebula photos that looked nothing like what others posted. Turned out I was using DeepSkyStacker with default settings that clip the histogram too hard. A guy at the Tucson star party last month showed me his settings and it was night and day. Anybody else catch this mistake and have a fix that worked?

Oh man, I feel this one hard. I spent like three months wondering why my M31 shots looked like a blurry potato with some purple splotches. Turns out I had darks and flats totally swapped in DSS and it was just making everything worse. Spent a whole weekend re-processing everything after some random CloudyNights thread saved me.

Did you try just using flats from a different session @amymason, or is that a death sentence too lol?
