My astro-photo editing got so good I created a new constellation.

Now I'm wondering if it's cheating to sell prints of something I basically invented.

Who even owns the stars to call it cheating? I mean, @davidshah is right, they process photos all the time. Selling your version is just putting a cool filter on the universe.

But calling it cheating is totally off base. Astronomers PROCESS star photos all the time to bring out details we can't see. You're doing the same thing but with your own creative spin. Those prints are YOUR art, made from real light in the sky. Selling them is just sharing a cool new way to look up. It's no different than painting a landscape from your imagination.

Who gets to decide what counts as cheating in art anyway? Your point about astronomers processing photos really hits home, because it's the same idea. It's all about bringing out something beautiful that's already there. I feel bad for anyone getting crap for sharing their vision like that. Selling those prints just spreads the joy, so keep doing your thing, lmao.
