Pro tip: I figured out why my night sky photos were all blurry trash

Took me like 3 months and a hundred failed shots to realize I wasn't letting my tripod settle after setup. I'd just slap it down, hit the shutter, and wonder why everything looked like a blob. Last week I started waiting 30 seconds after touching it before taking a photo, and my Andromeda shot came out crystal clear. Anyone else have a dumb basic mistake that took way too long to figure out?

That 30 second wait thing is real. I started doing the same after my star shots came out looking like jellybeans. Another trick I found was hanging my camera bag from the hook under the tripod to weigh it down even more after it settles. Do you find that helps too?

Does hanging weight off the tripod actually help stability long term though? I see this advice a lot from @davis.gavin but I always figured adding mass after the tripod settles just introduces new vibrations that need to settle again. The way I look at it, if you're already waiting 30 seconds for the tripod to stabilize, adding weight after that point just resets the clock.
