That one Tuesday last March where everything lined up perfectly
I was out with my Celestron 8SE near Lake Michigan around 3am, just hoping to get a decent shot of the Orion Nebula. The seeing was absolutely incredible, like I could count the individual stars in the Trapezium cluster for the first time. Managed to stack 45 frames before my battery died, and the final result was the clearest M42 I've ever gotten. Anyone else have a single night that just outshines all your other attempts?

What mount were you using that died after 45 frames, or was it just the camera battery? I've had nights where the gear gives out right when things get good and it's so frustrating. I'm curious if you think the alignment was just luck or if the conditions were that perfect.

I mean, @lindareed, the mount dying after 45 frames sounds like my luck - gear always gives up right when things get good, doesn't it? It was the mount's clutch slipping after a long session, so I had to pack it in early that night. Maybe it was just a perfect calm sky and a mediocre alignment, but I'll take any win I can get.
