Had a wake-up call about my sanding technique last week

I've been doing body work for about 8 years now and always thought I had sanding down pat. Last week a guy I've known from the trade shows stopped by my shop in Phoenix. He watched me block sand a quarter panel for 10 minutes and then pointed out I was holding the block wrong the whole time. I tried his way on the next panel and it cut my time by almost half with way less hand fatigue. Anyone else had someone just casually drop some game-changing advice like that?

My sanding technique would embarrass a toddler with a crayon.

Read an article that said to always sand with the grain not against it. Honestly it took me way too long to realize that's why my projects looked like a raccoon got at them. Also found out using 120 grit first then moving up to 220 makes a huge difference. Might help you out too.
