I still think PPG is better than Sherwin-Williams for clear coat
Tried S-W on a 2023 Civic last month and the orange peel was way worse than I get with PPG even with the same gun settings. Anyone else find PPG lays down flatter every time?

My buddy runs a body shop in Phoenix that does nothing but insurance work on newer Hondas and Toyotas, and he switched back to PPG after Sherwin-Williams changed their hardener formula about 18 months ago. @avery629 I hear what you're saying about prep and temp, but in his case the orange peel got noticeably worse across 40+ cars with the same booth conditions and gun setup he'd been using for two years. He even had the Sherwin rep come out and spray a test panel himself, and the rep couldn't get it as flat as the PPG either. It might just be a regional batch thing or something, but the difference is real enough that his painters were complaining about extra buffing time.

Oh man, are we really gonna act like this is a life or death thing? I mean yeah, I've sprayed both and PPG does look a bit nicer out of the gun most times but the difference is pretty small honestly. If you're getting really bad orange peel on a 2023 Civic with Sherwin Williams it might be more about your prep work or the temp in your booth than the paint itself. I've seen guys lay down perfect Sherwin jobs and terrible PPG ones too. Not saying you're wrong or anything but sometimes we overthink this stuff when a good sand and buff can fix most of it anyway.
