I used to think those magnetic welding blankets were a gimmick until my buddy's shop in Phoenix.

He showed me how they cut his prep time by 20 minutes per job by sticking right to the panels. Anyone have a good brand they trust that won't leave residue?

Guess I was the gimmick for doubting those things.

Those magnetic blankets are a total game changer for body work. The good ones use a strong magnet and a thick felt backing so they don't slide or leave marks. Just make sure you get one meant for welding heat.

Gary from the parts counter at the local Napa swore by the Hobart brand ones for years. I remember he had this old Camaro in his bay with some tricky body line repairs, and he stuck those blankets right on the quarter panel without a single scratch. The felt backing is the real key, you know, like a soft landing pad for the heat. Keeps everything clean and no sticky residue to fuss with after.
