My uncle told me to never use a torch on a quarter panel

He worked at a shop in El Paso for 30 years and swore it would warp the metal every time. I figured he was just old school, so last week I tried it on a 2018 Civic to speed up some filler. Sure enough, I got a low spot the size of my palm that took two extra hours to fix. I should have just been patient and used a heat gun. Has anyone found a good middle ground for applying heat without causing damage?

Ever tried a low-temp heat lamp? My buddy swears by one for tricky spots.

Heat lamps on roofs? That sounds like overkill unless you're trying to hatch chicks up there. Is it really that big of a deal?
