Noticed a paint mismatch at the hardware store that bugged me all day

Stopped by the Sherman-Williams on 5th to grab some reducer for a job tomorrow. While I was waiting, I watched a guy buy a can of spray paint for his truck bumper. He matched the code on the door tag, but the cap color was way off from the actual panel. I told him the code only gets you close, the blend matters more on metallics. He shrugged and left anyway. Am I the only one who checks the spray pattern on a scrap piece before trusting a rattle can for touch-up work?
