Pro tip: PPG vs Sherwin-Williams clear coat on a Honda Accord in Atlanta last month
I had a 2018 Accord that needed a rear quarter repaint. Used Sherwin-Williams clear like I always do. Looked great until I buffed it and got a halo effect. Re-shot it with PPG DC4000 and the depth came out way better. No haze, no nonsense. Anyone else see a big difference between brands on dark metallics?

Oh man, I gotta say that DC4000 does have a different solvent blend than what Sherwin uses. My buddy had the same halo issue on a dark blue metallic Ford and it was all down to how the clear laid down on the flake. Just a heads up, those dark metallics are picky about flash times too.

I switched to a slower reducer on that exact type of job and it made a huge difference. Let the base flash for like 20 minutes between coats too, even if it felt dry to the touch. First time I rushed it I got that same halo effect and had to sand it all back down.
