Spent $400 on a fancy paint gun that turned out to be junk for clear coat
Bought a top-line Iwata last spring because the shop foreman swore by it, but after three jobs with orange peel and fisheye I swapped back to my old Devilbiss and saved myself the headache has anyone else had a brand fail like that?

Man that really stings when you drop that kind of cash and it just doesn't deliver. I had a similar letdown with a Graco gun last year, spent hours dialing in the pressure and tip size but still got runs and orange peel no matter what. Sometimes the hype from the shop guys just doesn't match real world use, especially with clear coat which is so picky. It's a bummer when the fancy name brands don't back up their price tag.

Totally agree with you on that clear coat thing. It's like once you mess up that final layer all the work underneath is wasted. Ive tried a few different guns over the years and honestly the fancy ones arent always better. Sometimes the midrange stuff with a good tip works just as well if you take your time. What clear coat brand did you end up using on that job?
