Honestly I used to just grab whatever gun was hanging on the wall and crank the fluid wide open on jambs, figuring more paint meant faster coverage. Then last spring a guy named Ray who has been spraying for 31 years let me watch him do a set of jambs on a Tacoma, and he was barely cracking the trigger, maybe a quarter turn, with a 1.2 tip and the pressure dialed way down to like 18 psi at the cap. He said the wide open habit was why my clear was running down the pillar and why I kept sanding out dry spots right next to wet ones. I tried his way on the next 4 cars and the difference was night and day, hardly any runs and the coverage was way more even, I think I cut my jamb time by 15 minutes a car just from not chasing defects. Tbh the part that got me was how much less material I was going through, I was burning through almost a whole cup per jam session before and now it's closer to half. Ngl it felt dumb to admit that a guy twice my age with a 20 year old SATA was out spraying my setup. Curious if anyone else runs a smaller tip on jambs or if I'm the only one who was sleeping on this.
