A quick talk with a retired tech about old car computers made me rethink my whole approach

He said he still keeps a 1995 GM service manual in his truck because the basic logic for a no-start hasn't changed, even if the parts have. I realized I've been leaning too hard on the scan tool and not enough on the fundamentals. How do you guys balance new tech with old-school diagnostic steps?

Man, I read an article that said modern tech just gives us more data, not more smarts. You still need to know what that data means in the real world. Otherwise you're just staring at numbers instead of fixing the car.

That "basic logic hasn't changed" idea is why I always check for spark and fuel first.
