Appreciation for what a good timing light showed me
I messed around for two hours trying to get my 1995 F-150 to stop pinging under load. Changed plugs, cleaned the injectors, nothing helped. Then I borrowed a proper timing light with an advance knob instead of just winging it with my old basic one. Found out my initial timing was at 18 degrees instead of the spec 10. Set it back to 10 and the pinging vanished on the first test drive. The whole thing took maybe 30 minutes once I had the right tool. Has anyone else chased a drivability issue for way too long only to find a simple timing fix?

Read somewhere that a lot of those old Ford 300 sixes are actually way more sensitive to timing than people give them credit for. Honestly, I heard a buddy of mine swear his E4OD shifted way better after he dialed the timing back to spec on his 94. Ngl, I spent a whole weekend chasing a rough idle on my old 302 once, turns out the distributor was just off by a tooth. That timing light with the advance knob is a lifesaver for sure.
