Found a cracked frame on a 2015 F-150 during a routine oil change

I work at a shop in Phoenix and had a 2015 F-150 come in last Thursday for just an oil change and tire rotation. When I got it on the lift I noticed rust bubbling near the rear shock mount. Poked it with a screwdriver and went right through about 3 inches of frame. The customer had no idea and it was a safety hazard. Has anyone else run into these frames failing on the aluminum body trucks?

Poke it with a screwdriver and hope for the best. That test never lies.

Makes me wonder if Ford just forgot to paint the frames on those years, like I forgot my keys this morning and spent ten minutes blaming the cat for hiding them before i found them in the fridge. Seriously though, we see way too many rusted frames here in the rust belt, but that's a 2015 and the cab is aluminum so it's almost funny that the frame rots out before anything else. Maybe it's just me but that screwdriver test is always nerve wracking, never know if you're gonna hit solid steel or just punch through to dirt. Hope the customer gets that sorted before it snaps on the highway.

Man that screwdriver test gets me every time too. I've seen frames that looked solid from the top but were basically dust underneath. Real shame on a 2015, you'd think they'd have that figured out by now.
