Found a cracked vacuum line with a smoke machine I built from a pickle jar and a cheap cigar
Had a 2006 Silverado in the shop last month with a rough idle nobody could pin down, threw parts at it for two days and still had a lean code. I remembered an old guy named Ray at a shop in Bakersfield showing me how he used a cigar and a jar to find vacuum leaks back before smoke machines were cheap. So I drilled two holes in a pickle jar lid, ran a hose from a little fish tank pump to the cigar, and pumped smoke into the intake. Took about 30 seconds before a thin trail curled up from a cracked line behind the manifold I had missed twice with carb cleaner. Fixed it with a foot of hose I had in a drawer and the truck idled smooth the second I fired it up. Now I am wondering if any of you still run the cheap DIY smoke rig or if the store bought ones are worth the money.
