Had to pick between impact sockets and chrome ones for my air hammer kit
I was ordering a new air hammer set last month and couldn't decide if I should go with impact sockets or stick with regular chrome ones for the pin work I do. Went with the impact ones since they're tougher and figured I'd rather not risk one shattering on me mid-job. Has anyone else swapped over and noticed a big difference in wear?

Gotta disagree with you there man. Chrome sockets are totally fine for most air hammer work unless you're really beating on seized bolts all day. Impact sockets are way thicker and heavier, which makes them a pain to get into tight spots on body panels or engine bays where my air hammer actually needs to fit. I've used chrome on my old IR gun for years and never had one explode on me. They actually wear better around the drive end too since they're harder steel and don't stretch out like impacts can. Did you run into clearance issues with the impact sockets on your first job?

My buddy brought his impacts over to help me swap a water pump and we couldn't get them into the lower bolts without a mile of extensions. It's the same story with everything nowadays, they build stuff tougher but forget you still gotta fit it in the spot it's meant for.
