Just realized my torque wrench has been lying to me since the spring
Had a wheel bearing job on a 2016 Silverado last week and something felt off when I hit the axle nut. I grabbed my 1/2 inch clicker that I've had for 4 years, set it to 177 ft-lbs, and it clicked way too early, like barely past hand tight. I checked it against a buddy's beam style wrench at his shop in Mesa and mine was reading about 25 percent low. Turns out I'd dropped it on the shop floor back in March and never thought twice about it. The scary part is I did maybe 15-20 lug jobs with that thing since then and just trusted the click. I sent it out to get checked and they said the spring inside was shot. Now I'm sitting here wondering how many of those cars went out the door undertorqued. How often do you guys actually send yours in for a check?
