Learned the hard way why torque specs on aluminum oil pans matter
A few months back I replaced the oil pan on a 2015 F-150 with a new aluminum one. I just snugged it down by hand like I always did with the old steel pans (you know, good and tight). Well, it leaked like a sieve after 2 days. A guy at the local Napa told me aluminum needs a torque wrench set to 18 ft-lbs, no more. I went back, pulled it off, and did it right with my torque wrench. Has anyone else had to change their approach for these newer aluminum pans?

Oh man, that's rough! I did the exact same thing on my old Silverado and had oil all over my driveway before I figured it out.

Same here @hill.jade. A new drain plug gasket fixed it for me.
