Stubby wrench trick saved a 2 hour job on a Grand Cherokee

Last Tuesday I had this 2011 Grand Cherokee with a stripped oil pan plug, the drain bolt was rounded off and the skid plate was in the way. I tried my normal socket set, then a bolt extractor kit, nothing would grab. Out of frustration I grabbed my old 6 inch stubby wrench, wedged it sideways against the bolt head, and tapped it with a small hammer. The shock broke the rust seal and it spun right off in 10 minutes. Anyone else have a weird tool that ended up being the answer when the proper stuff failed?

Honestly sounds like a lucky hammer swing more than a trick.
