That brake line job that ate my whole Saturday
Last month I took on what looked like a simple rusted brake line on a 2002 F-150. Figured I'd have it swapped in 2 hours tops. Four hours later I was still fighting a seized fitting that snapped off in the proportioning valve. Ended up having to pull the whole valve block and chase threads. Total time from start to bleed was 7 hours for what should have been a 45 minute job. Anyone else run into a simple job that just snowballed into a full day project?

Total time from start to bleed was 7 hours" - yep, that sounds about right. In my experience, the universe has a way of punishing you for thinking a job will be simple. It's like when you try to fix a leaky faucet and end up replacing the entire pipe under the sink. Or when you plan a quick trip to the grocery store and somehow the car won't start. The pattern I've noticed is that the more confident you are about how long something will take, the more it fights back. That seized fitting was probably the universe's way of saying "you should have just brought it to a shop.

Is it just me or is that the most accurate description of DIY life ever? I once thought I'd just swap out a thermostat, 8 hours later I had to call my dad to come help me rewire the whole furnace. That seized fitting was definitely the car's way of laughing at you for thinking it would be a quick job.
