Tried that fancy ultrasonic carb cleaner everyone talks about
Honestly, I dropped $300 on one of those ultrasonic cleaners last month to do a set of Quadrajet carbs from a 75 Chevy truck. After 45 minutes of running it, the little passages still had crud in them and I had to go back with a wire and carb dip anyway. Has anyone else found these things are more hype than help for old carbs?

My buddy Tom bought one of those last fall for his 71 Mustang's 2-barrel Autolite. He ran it for a FULL hour with fresh solution and still had to poke through the idle jets with a guitar string. @char508 is totally right about the maze thing, those little passages just trap air pockets and the waves never reach the crud. Tom ended up selling his on Facebook marketplace and went back to a bucket of Berryman's. I told him he shoulda saved the money for a good parts washer instead.

Man, I hear you. Those ultrasonic cleaners are great for jewelry or maybe a modern fuel injector, but they just don't cut it on old, gummed-up carbs. The problem is that ultrasonic waves need a straight path to work, and those tiny passages in a Quadrajet are like a maze. You basically paid for a fancy pre-wash, but you still gotta do the real scrubbing with wire and dip anyway. It's hype for sure unless you plan on running it for two hours and changing the fluid three times.
