Tried using a vacuum bleeder on my F-150's brakes last weekend without pre-filling the reservoir first

I sucked all the air into the master cylinder and ended up with a mushy pedal that took 3 more hours of bench bleeding to fix, has anyone else made that dumb mistake with their own truck?

Nah, that sounds like the truck's fault for not having a warning label.

Man that's a classic move right there, we've all been there. Did the exact same thing on my '12 Silverado a couple years back, sucked all the fluid out before I even realized what was happening. Ended up with a pedal that went straight to the floor and had to do the whole bench bleed dance in the driveway while my wife watched from the window shaking her head. At least you only lost 3 hours, I had to make two runs to AutoZone for more fluid cause I kept spilling it everywhere.
