Walked into my old vocational school shop last Friday and the diagnostic bay is all laptops now
Stopped by Lincoln Tech over on the east side last Friday because my old instructor was retiring after 31 years and a few of us threw him a little get together. The shop floor looked the same, same oil stains, same beat up tool crib, but the back corner where we used to have the Allen scope and the old Sun distributor machine is now a row of laptops on rolling carts. Kid gave me a tour and said they mostly teach scan tool diag now, live data, waveform capture, all that. I get it, cars changed and you cant fix a 2023 anything with a dwell meter, no argument there. But man, watching a 19 year old pull up a misfire graph on a screen instead of pulling a plug and reading it kinda hit me. Took me back to when I spent 2 hours chasing a bad cap and rotor and felt like a hero when it fired up. Anyone else been back to their old school or first shop and barely recognized the place?
