Warning: That cheap $80 code reader from the parts store left me with a bad call
I had a 2012 F150 with a rough idle, and the generic P0300 code it gave me pointed straight to coils. After swapping all eight, the problem was actually a cracked intake boot the scanner couldn't see. Has anyone found a decent mid-range scanner that actually shows live data well for under $300?

So you basically gave your truck a full spa day for a cracked shoe... classic. What's the point of a code if it just lies to you?

My buddy's Ford threw a code for a bad oxygen sensor last month. He replaced it, light came right back. Turned out it was just a loose gas cap the whole time. The computer saw a leak in the system and guessed wrong. It feels like those old magic 8-balls sometimes, giving you an answer that's technically related but totally misses the real problem.
