Discovered a weird routing trick for shipping between terminals

I was trying to get a car from Phoenix to Cleveland a few months back and every quote was like $1200+. On a whim I looked up terminal to terminal options in both cities and it was half that. Booked it myself online instead of going through a broker and the driver picked it up at the Phoenix yard no issues. Has anyone else saved a bunch by avoiding door to door service?

Oh come on, terminal to terminal is a total gamble if the yards are even close to where you actually need the car. I tried that once and ended up paying a local guy $300 just to get it from the rail yard to my house, which ate up most of the savings. Brokers are annoying but at least they handle the last mile headache so you don't have to hunt down a random hauler.
