PSA: Found out a broker can legally hand your car to a driver with no insurance, and I can't decide if that's normal
I was digging through the FMCSA rules last Tuesday night because a friend's Civic got scratched up between Denver and Kansas City, and I found out brokers only have to make sure a carrier has the minimum coverage, not that the driver actually keeps it active during the haul. So on one side, people say that's just how the industry works and you should buy your own gap coverage if you care that much. On the other side, it feels nuts that you can pay $900, hand over the keys, and have zero real protection if the guy lets his policy lapse mid route. Where do you all land on this, is it on us to vet the carrier or should the broker be on the hook?
