Thought open transport was a scam until I shipped a car from Phoenix to Seattle for $900

I was sure those open carriers would trash my paint job. But the enclosed quote was $1600 and I didn't have that kind of cash. Rolled the dice on open transport. Car showed up with a layer of dust and one bug splat. Not a single scratch. Now I think the real rip off is paying double for enclosed when you don't need it. Anyone else find out open shipping is actually fine for most cars?

Figured the same thing at first but my experience was totally different. Paid for open transport from Houston to Denver and got a nice rock chip on the hood plus some bird droppings baked into the paint that took forever to clean off. Maybe you just got lucky with your route and the weather that day.
