Can we talk about the day I figured out I'd been rushing connector pins for 11 years?
I was on a Gulfstream G550 in Wichita back in March, and a new guy watched me crimp a pin in about 4 seconds flat. He didn't say anything mean, just asked if I'd ever pulled one out and looked at the wire strands under a magnifier. I grabbed a scrap piece and checked it under the bench light, and at least half the strands were nicked or cut clean through because I was jamming the stripper down too hard and too fast. Eleven years of pulling tension tests that passed and I never once looked at the strands themselves. Now I strip slow and count them, and I want to know how many of you actually check the wire under magnification instead of just trusting the pull test.
