Pulled my first real cannon plug apart in 2009, and the ones I did last week barely feel like the same job
I was at a shop in Wichita back in 2009 and my lead handed me a cannon plug with a wiring diagram on paper, told me to ring it out pin by pin and write down every reading by hand. Last week I did a connector on a King Air here in Boise and the whole thing was on a laptop, no paper anywhere, and I was done in about 40 minutes. The tools changed too, my old Fluke 87 lives in the bottom of my bag now because half the checks happen through the box itself. I still keep a paper copy of the pinout in my back pocket on every job, mostly out of habit. The one thing that has not changed is you still have to chase down a bad pin the slow way when the box lies to you. Any of you still write your readings on paper or am I the last one doing it?

Paper is dead weight and you know it. A laptop saves every reading to a log file with a timestamp, so when a box lies to you, you can pull up exactly what it said last week instead of squinting at smudged pen marks. The guys still writing by hand are the ones redoing the same pin three times because they can't read their own notes.
