Appreciation post: the ranger at Yosemite who talked me out of my own route plan
I walked into the Tuolumne Meadows wilderness office 3 years ago with a 45 mile route up Matterhorn Canyon that I had spent two weeks mapping out on paper. The ranger pulled up the snow report and showed me the pass was still holding 6 feet of snow in mid June, then sketched a lower loop through Glen Aulin instead. I ran that lower loop in 4 days and loved it, so now I want to know, do you all check with rangers before locking a route, or do you just send it and hope for the best?
