Got told my pack straps were all wrong by a guy at a trailhead in Colorado
I was loading up for a 5-mile hike near Durango when some older dude pointed out my shoulder straps were too loose. He showed me how to adjust them so the weight sits on my hips instead. Now my back doesn't ache after the first mile. Anyone else get corrected by a stranger on the trail?

Read somewhere that 80% of hikers have their straps too loose first time.

Haha, that stat feels personal @milesrobinson - pretty sure I was the one skewing that number my first few trips. My pack would shift around so much I looked like I was doing the hula on the trail. Took me getting a weird bruise on my hip before I figured out you actually have to crank those things down till it feels a little too tight. Your mileage may vary but I swear by the snug-but-not-cutting-off-circulation method now. Live and learn, right?
