My $180 sleeping pad gave me a bruised hip on day 3 of the Long Trail
I shelled out for a super lightweight inflatable pad thinking it would save my back on the Vermont section. By the third night I woke up every hour feeling the rocks right through it. Ended up cutting the trip short at the Inn at Long Trail and buying a foam pad from a gear shop in town for $30. Anyone else had a fancy piece of gear totally fail them on a long route?

Ugh, that really sucks. It's hard to trust a pricey piece of gear when it lets you down like that, especially in the middle of a trip like the Long Trail. I've learned that sometimes the simplest, cheapest thing ends up being the most reliable when you're out there for real.

Did you try turning it into the world's most expensive trash bag or is that just a move I'd pull? Sounds like your hip and my wallet both got bruised on that one...
