I ditched my fancy tube feeder for a simple platform and never looked back
After watching starlings and grackles clean out my nyjer feeder in about 20 minutes every morning, I swapped to a cheap wooden platform feeder I got at a garage sale. Now the finches and sparrows actually stick around to eat instead of getting bullied off. Has anyone else had better luck stepping down from a 'premium' feeder to something basic?

Garage sale feeders are underrated. I’ve seen more birds at my basic tray than any fancy tube I ever owned.

Honestly, is it really that deep though? Birds will eat off a soggy cardboard box if that's all there is, so calling a platform feeder some kind of life upgrade feels like a stretch.
