I stopped putting out suet cakes in the summer and my yard got way more interesting
For years, I followed the common advice to only offer suet in cold weather, but I kept a feeder up all last summer just to see. From June through August, I logged over 15 different species coming to it, including a pair of red-bellied woodpeckers that nested nearby. The big change was seeing warblers and even a blue-gray gnatcatcher picking at it, birds that never touched my seed feeders. I think the key was finding a no-melt, insect-based suet blend. It didn't go bad or get greasy. Has anyone else tried year-round suet and noticed different visitors?

Oh man, the bird feeding rules are all made up, huh? I took mine down like a chump. Guess my yard is boring on purpose.
