I think finch mixes are overrated and black oil sunflower seeds did more for my yard in 3 weeks than any fancy blend ever did
I switched from a premium finch blend to straight black oil sunflower seeds back in October and the difference was honestly night and day. Within 3 weeks I went from mostly house sparrows to cardinals, chickadees, and even a pair of nuthatches showing up daily in my backyard in Cincinnati. Am I missing something about those expensive mixes, or has anyone else had better luck just keeping it simple?

You mention going from house sparrows to cardinals and chickadees with black oil sunflower. Have you noticed any difference in how much seed gets wasted on the ground? I switched to straight sunflower too and it seems like less ends up on the lawn compared to mixes with millet or cracked corn.
