My neighbor said he stopped filling his bird bath in the summer heat

We were talking over the fence yesterday, and he mentioned he read that standing water can breed mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus. It hit different because I've been so focused on helping the birds, I never thought about the risk. Do you all still keep water out, or do you change it more often now?

Yeah my uncle got super into that mosquito dunk stuff for his rain barrels. Kinda like what laura_white99 said, feels wrong to take the water away completely when it's so hot out.

He stopped giving birds water in a heatwave? That's cruel.

Ngl I just dump the water out and refill it every morning. Takes two seconds and the birds still get their drink. My neighbor does the same thing your guy does and I've seen pigeons looking rough in his yard. Honestly a little bit of effort isn't gonna kill you.
