My neighbor told me his birdbath is a 'squirrel spa' now

He said he gave up trying to keep them out and just watches them lounge in it. I mean, maybe it's just me, but that made me think about just enjoying whatever shows up at the feeder. Has anyone else just leaned into the chaos?

My cousin in Ohio spent fifty bucks on a squirrel-proof feeder and it actually works. I mean, if you just let them take over, they'll scare off all the birds and eat you out of house and home. It feels like giving up to me, like you're just letting a pest win. There's a reason they make those cages and baffles, you know? Watching them might be fun for a minute, but they're messy and they ruin everything. I'd keep fighting the good fight to actually see some cardinals or blue jays.

Totally get that. I dropped serious cash on one of those weighted perch feeders and it's been a game changer. Finally seeing more finches instead of those little furry thieves lol.

You laugh but that squirrel spa idea might actually help the local ecosystem in a way nobody's talking about. A birdbath that stays wet and dirty from squirrels splashing around could be a perfect spot for butterflies and bees to get minerals and water without risking drowning. Maybe leaning into the chaos attracts more biodiversity than a pristine feeder ever could.
