Pro tip: I started counting how much seed my feeder actually wastes, and it's about 40 percent
A guy from the local Audubon chapter in Boise told me at a meetup last month that tube feeders with small ports can waste almost half the seed if it gets damp and clumps up. I dumped my tray for one week and weighed it, and 4.2 pounds of millet and sunflower went straight to the ground where the starlings and house sparrows cleaned it up. Switched to a tray feeder with a screen bottom and a squirrel baffle, and the mess dropped way down. Does anyone have a no mess blend they actually like, or am I stuck picking sunflower shells out of the grass forever?
