Put up a cheap suet feeder on a whim and got a woodpecker I've never seen before
I grabbed a basic wire cage suet block from the hardware store last month, just to see if anything would go for it. Stuck it on the big oak in my yard here in Dayton. For weeks it was just starlings and the usual sparrows. Then this morning, a red-bellied woodpecker showed up and went to town on it. I've lived here 5 years and never spotted one. Anyone else have a simple feeder change bring in a totally new bird?

Guess you just needed the right bait. That cheap suet block is basically a woodpecker dinner bell. Enjoy the new regular.

Notice how the right tool for the job changes everything. That cheap block did more than attract birds, it solved the problem. Makes you wonder what else we're overcomplicating.
